Welcome would like to welcome Roma Matott the High School.
Here is a little bit about her.
"My homebase will be the High School library. However, I will be working with staff and students at all four buildings. It is a big job, but I am excited for the new year and all the challenges that come with it!
I grew up in Potsdam, New York. I have a several degrees: BA from St. Lawrence University (major in French, Spanish and German), a Masters in Library Science (major Children's and YA services) from the University of Pittsburgh, AS in Computer Science from Onondaga Community College, and a Masters in Teaching (elementary grades 1-6). I have been a librarian for over 25 years and have been working mostly in rural education settings for the past 10. Most recently at OHM BOCES School Library System, I created and lead professional development for teachers and librarians. In addition to becoming a member of the Norwich CSD community, I also work part-time for OPALS library automation system and Project Look Sharp, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting media literacy education in schools.
Interests? Have you got all day? I like painting fantasy and science fiction miniatures, playing board games and video games, woodworking, quilting, create objects with my 3-d printers and CNC machine, reading, gardening, sewing, Legos, walking my dogs and the list goes on and on."
We would like to welcome Chris Johnson to the Norwich High School. Below is a bit of information about him.
Chris Johnson here. I will be teaching in the Math department. I graduated from Portland State University (BS Math) and Concordia University (MAT). This will be my ninth year teaching. As for personal info, I enjoy live sports (Utica Comets, Colgate football and ice hockey, and Oneonta Outlaws/Utica Blue Sox) and the NFL on TV (Go Buffalo!), and I look forward to attending school sports. I also enjoy live music when I can, movies at the Colonia and Hamilton Theaters, and the many microbreweries in the area. I was born in New Jersey, lived in Oregon for 20+ years, and moved back to New York 3 years ago to be closer to family.

10 pieces of advice for middle school students:
1. Don’t get into drama. There’s going to be a lot of it. It’s not worth wasting your time and energy on things that won’t matter the next day.
2. Don’t be cruel. Hurting other people won’t make you feel any better about yourself. And trust me, it will only make the other person feel worse about themselves.
3. Try harder in the classes you hate. Chances are, you have at least one class you’ll hate. Try harder in that class, or those classes, and you’re less likely to fail.
4. Stick with the people you trust, and those who make you feel better about yourself. If you hang out with people who hurt you for no good reason, you’ll feel worse about yourself. Hang with the people who boost your self esteem instead of crushing it.
5. You don’t need to be popular. People try so hard to be popular, but in all honesty, going into high school, how popular you were in middle school doesn’t matter. Frankly, it doesn’t matter in middle school either. No one cares if you’re popular, they care if you’re nice. So just be nice, and be yourself.
6. Don’t listen to the haters. They’ll try to hurt you, but you’ve just got to move on and ignore them. It’ll hurt when they try to crush your spirit, but don’t listen to them. Just be yourself, no matter what they say.
7. Trust yourself. Don’t cheat, don’t break the rules, don’t vape, don’t drink, don’t be a person who thinks they need to do those things to be cool.
8. You’ll be uncomfortable at first, but you’ll get used to it. It’s not as hard or as scary as some people think, or will tell you. It’ll be alright.
9. Listen to your teachers. Even if you don’t think so now, they know more than you do and are only trying to help.
10. Find what makes you happy. When someone knocks you down, just do whatever that may be.
On behalf of the Norwich CSD Transportation Team, we are excited to welcome back all students to the upcoming 2022-23 school year! Attached are the current bus routes along with estimated AM pickup times. Although a lot of work has gone into ensuring the accuracy of these times, please anticipate a 5–10-minute grace period for the first week of school as there are many variables that can impact our routes, including new student registrations or requests to drop transportation. We will be utilizing corner bus stops within the city limits so if this applies to your student, please have them ready at the closest corner for pickup. We ask all students to arrive at least 5 minutes before their scheduled pickup to ensure we get everyone to school on time!
You can find the 2022-2023 NCSD Bus Runs schedule here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1psCSHCo5gBRQu5TQ_Swmk5UpiL2BFi_J/view?usp=sharing
As always, call the Transportation Team with any questions at 607-334-1600 X 1600!
