Universal Screening
What is Universal Screening?
In order for schools to determine the academic potential of their students, they must conduct benchmarks of their skills on a regular basis. These are done through tests called universal screening.
What is universal screening? It is a benchmark used to identify students who might be at risk of difficulties in learning and is one component of the Multi-Tiered System of Supports. Universal screening is performed throughout a student's education, typically around three times per year in the fall, the winter, and the spring. It can be performed in any skill category: math, reading, writing, and behavior. However, universal screeners are most common for reading skills.
