i-Ready FAQs

What is i-Ready?

i-Ready is an online program and diagnostic for reading and/or mathematics that your student’s teacher(s) to determine your students’ needs, personalize their learning, and monitor their progress throughout the school year.

How does it work?

The Diagnostic is an adaptive experience that adjusts its questions for each student. As a student answers correctly, the questions get more difficult. As a student answers incorrectly, the questions get easier. This adaptability allows the Diagnostic to identify the strengths and opportunities for growth of each student.

Why is my student taking the i-Ready?

The purpose of the diagnostic is not to give your student a grade, but instead to determine how best to support their learning. It will help your student’s teacher(s) determine their needs, personalize their learning, and monitor progress throughout the year

How will the diagnostic be administered?

Three times a year teachers will set time aside in their classroom to have students log in to i-Ready using their school-assigned Chromebooks. During this time students will answer questions that will adapt as they progress through the diagnostic to find the “just right” placement level for your student in the quickest and most efficient way possible.

How do I know how my student performed on the Diagnostic?

Every time your student takes the Diagnostic, your student’s teacher may choose to send you a report. Note that the Diagnostic’s main purpose is to help teachers guide individualized student instruction, so they may decide not to distribute the report. You can reference the report to see how your student performed on the Diagnostic. Your student may also be able to view their score in their “Completed Work” section in “My Progress.” Check-in with your student’s teachers to discuss progress toward goals, placement levels, and proficiency.

What if my student is performing below grade level?

This situation can happen, at Norwich City School District the teachers have many strategies and programs to help accelerate your student’s learning. Having this information can help you, your student, and their teachers have the right conversations to make the needed progress.
