Youth Art Month is a celebration of the visual arts!
The Council for Art Education (CFAE) administers Youth Art Month (YAM) annually, during March, to celebrate visual art education for grades K – 12 at a national level.
YAM encourages support for quality school art curriculum and promotes art material safety. Since 1961 the CFAE has directed the program which provides a medium for recognizing skills developed through visual arts experiences unlike any other curriculum subject, including:
• Problem solving
• Creativity
• Observation
• Communication
This year’s theme is “Art Connects Us” and this rings true now more than ever! Please join the Norwich CSD Art Teachers in celebrating our young artists.
We begin our celebration with the opening of the CASA Chenango Area Student Art Exhibit featuring work by our talented NHS artists. This event is open to the public March 4-25, 2022 at the Chenango Arts Council, 24 West Main Street, Norwich NY. Gallery hours are Monday - Friday 10a-5p or by appointment. Masks and social distancing are required. Please visit Chenangoarts.org for more information.

This past December High School Junior Elspeth Hunter was selected as a member of the New York State Conference All-State Mixed Choir. Each year, thousands of student musicians in New York State audition for the opportunity to be selected for the NYSSMA Conference All-State Music ensembles. Being selected for Conference All-State is one of the highest honors a student musician can receive while in high school.
Congratulations again to Elspeth for her hard work and dedication!
